Standard V
Engage in professional growth and leadership
This standard ensures the educator continues along a path of lifelong learning. As an educator, one can not be as effective if he or she does not keep up with current trends and new technologies. Important, too, is a connection to the larger community of fellow colleagues and other educational stakeholders. I feel that the master's program has prepared me to continue participating in the larger digital community by helping to lead others in technology integration and making valuable contributions to the field.
The survey that I created using the online program Survey Monkey is one that I distribute to teachers at my school at the end of the year. I created this survey so that I can determine the types of resources the teachers need for instruction. It also allows them to give input into the services that I am providing. Based on their comments and responses, I can evaluate the current program and make improvements where needed. This meets the standard because I am participating in my local community using technology to improve student learning. It also meets the leadership aspect of this standard, and it shows that I reflect on my practice to make improvements.
The Library Info site I created with Weebly allows me to provide important information to parents and students. I created this site recently in order to distribute needed documents for our reading fair program. The flyer that can be seen on the page was created using InDesign and was distributed to all students at the school. The document contains a QR code that anyone can scan to access the website. I purposely did not add a lot of identifying information on this page to protect the privacy of our school and students. However, the intended audience will recognize the site by the initials of our organization: NWEMS. This artifact shows a contribution to both the local and global communities (as anyone could access the information by searching) and it exhibits leadership by providing a needed resource where I saw a need for it.
Another artifact I have included is a research study that I conducted with a group of students for REF 601. We wanted to determine what factors led to technology implementation after professional development had occurred. I do not feel that we had sufficient time to do the study justice, but we did identify some factors that lead to implementation, and I have used this information to guide the professional development that I provide for my colleagues. I feel this artifact shows a contribution to the field of instructional technology.
The final artifact is a blog post from my Teacher Tech Resources blog. I created this blog without prompting from my administrators as a way to provide information to my colleagues. This particular post shows them how to use technology that is already available to them but few are using. This post contains several resources including a list of tests they can access to evaluate a student's critical thinking skills, an Emaze presentation with more information, and a PDF resource that I found to explain the software even further. This artifact meets the standard because it shows how I have participated in a leadership role to make a needed contribution to the teaching community using emerging technologies. Also, by checking the stats of my page, I am able to reflect on which areas are of most concern to other educators by which posts are getting the most traffic.

Future Learning Goals
I would like to do more research in to what factors of professional development lead to successful technology integration. I would also like to learn ways to advocate for a district-wide technology plan in my district. I feel that this would help our students get the tools they need to become 21st Century learners. At the present time, our district does not provide many tools for our students other than basic word processing and presentation software unless they are enrolled in special classes. I feel that those technology classes would be more effective if students could use the programs in other classes as well. I would like to learn about grant opportunities that would allow me to purchase that type of software for students outside of technology specific courses. I have recently joined some online communities to assist me in providing effective instruction to my students. I plan to use the knowledge I learn from these communities to do just that.
